Warning: Organized Practices not allowed

Organized Practices not allowed

Our league has been given a warning for violating the court order restricting teams from practicing on fields (Elm Street field) outside of the field time granted to the town as well as our league (e.g. weekends).  There has been more than one occasion that member teams from AASL have organized and met on town fields for softball practices.  We simply cannot do that, especially at Elm Street Field, and must stop such practices immediately.

While none of us is pleased that the court order exists, we know that violating it has potentially serious consequences and believe we have communicated that to the captains in conversations over the years.  It was also discussed at this season’s Captains Meeting in early April.  Also, this restriction has also always been posted on our Fields webpage (also shown below).

If this happens again we risk being in contempt of the court order which could jeopardize our league’s ability to play even organized softball.  We need to take this seriously; please don’t ruin it for the rest of us.

Please do NOT practice on town fields after hours or on weekends in any organized format.

If your captain calls a practice, remind him/her of these restrictions.

Rich and Matt,

It has been brought to my attention that on more than one occasion there have been adult league teams practicing on the Elm St. Field on the weekend.  This must stop IMMEDIATELY, or we risk being in contempt of the court order.  I would suggest you e-mail each team captain and/or team members and let them know of the seriousness of this issue.  I will not have adult softball lose that field for us.  I have had some teams contact us about booking practice times on other fields and we are making every effort to find them some space elsewhere.

Thank you - Nancy

Official Posting of Elm Street Restriction

as posted on our AASL Fields webpage for Elm Street

Please note that AASL is not permitted to use this field outside of our permitted times (Monday through Wednesday from 5:45 PM to 9:30 PM). We are not allowed to use the field on Saturdays and Sundays at any time due to town laws. Using the fields during this time by any member of AASL jeopardizes our use of this field at ANY TIME. For more information, please contact the Acton Recreation Department.

If any of this is unclear, please contact league officials or the Acton Recreation Department for further explanation.
