Game-Day Field Maintenance

This season, AASL has had some changes in field maintenance. AASL used to have fields maintained on some days during the week by the Natural Resources Department, working with the Recreation Department. However, due to time constraints, AASL was asked to contract this work out and hired Noble Athletic for game-day maintenance.

Below is a list of expected maintenance:

Grass Outfields

  • Natural Resources is responsible for keeping athletic fields in shape for games. This includes mowing grass areas at least once weekly. This schedule is not influenced by AASL.

NARA Infield

  • Sundays: AASL has permits for NARA on Sundays. Through mid-June, Matt has dragged and lined the field before Sunday games. From mid-June to the end of the season, game-day teams will likely have to do this due to vacations or other conflicts. Rakes, drag mats, lime, and a lime-liner are available in the bulkhead.
  • Mondays: through mid-June, no maintenance occurs on Mondays as AASL does not have regular permits for Mondays. From mid-June to August, Noble Athletic is scheduled to mat-drag the infield with a tractor and line the infield. It is likely that lines will be repainted in the outfield as well.
  • Tuesdays: through mid-June, no maintenance occurs on Tuesdays as AASL does not have regular permits for Tuesdays. From mid-June to August, AASL has permits but no additional maintenance is planned: the maintenance on Monday should be sufficient. Teams can choose to touch up lines with the lime-liner and can rake the infield as desired.
  • Wednesdays: through mid-June, no maintenance occurs on Wednesdays as AASL does not have regular permits for Wednesdays. From mid-June to August, AASL has permits and Noble Athletic is scheduled to mat-drag the infield with a tractor and line the infield.
  • Thursdays: through mid-June, Noble Athletic is scheduled to mat-drag the infield with a tractor and line the infield. Likely lines will be repainted in the outfield as well. From mid-June to August, AASL has permits but no additional maintenance is planned: the maintenance on Wednesday should be sufficient. Teams can choose to touch up lines with the lime-liner and can rake the infield as desired.
  • Fridays: AASL has or can obtain unassigned permits for some Fridays. No maintenance is planned.
  • Saturdays: AASL has no permits for Saturdays.

Elm Infield

  • Sundays: Elm Street cannot be permitted for Sundays.
  • Mondays: Noble Athletic is scheduled to mat-drag the infield with a tractor and line the infield. It is likely that the permalines will be repainted in the outfield as well.
  • Tuesdays: AASL has permits but no additional maintenance is planned: the maintenance on Monday should be sufficient. Teams can choose to touch up lines with the lime-liner and can rake the infield as desired.
  • Wednesdays: Noble Athletic is scheduled to mat-drag the infield with a tractor and line the infield.
  • Thursdays: AASL typically does not have Thursday permits for Elm. If we do, no additional maintenance is scheduled.
  • Fridays: AASL has or can obtain unassigned permits for some Fridays. No maintenance is planned.
  • Saturdays: AASL has no permits for Saturdays.

Playoffs

For playoffs, AASL expects to contract for daily field maintenance, howeve the end-of-season budget totals will determine how much is contracted out, how much is done by AASL commissioners/asst commissioners, and how much is done by volunteers.

Additional Help?

If you have an interest in some manual work to keep the fields in shape, we greatly appreciate any additional efforts our league members put in. If you want to get standing water off of the clay infield, we can teach you how to use the supersopper and filter cloth. If you want to line the field, we can provide guidance and supplies. If you want to drag or rake the field on any given day, follow the guidelines above for when we've already contracted for help and feel free to do this task on any other day.

Please let us know when you are doing this so we can log it in our Field Maintenance log online (we can show you how to do that too!)
