Squeeze Play Wins Flip With two teams tying at the top of the regular-season standings with 10-2 records, AASL moved into tiebreakers to determine playoff seeds for seeds 1 and 2.Since Swarm and Squeeze Play did not play head-to-head in 2008, AASL had to move to a coin-toss tiebreaker. In these cases, AASL Management (and Swarm players) would randomly determine playoff seeds for tied teams, but since Swarm was involved in the decision, AASL sought a neutral coin-flipper to help with the process. Jeff D (Squeeze Play captain) and Matt M (Swarm captain) met Rich G at Not Your Average Joe's (an AASL sponsor) for the official coin flip. Jeff graciously bought the beers and Mojito. Squeeze Play chose Tails when asked. The Playoff rules determine that the alphabetically higher team is assigned heads, however that's for when AASL management is determining seeds independently. ![]() First, Rich asked the bartender if she would flip the ceremonial coin, a tarnished 1879 Morgan silver dollar, given to Matt by his great-grandmother, but she declined, claiming limited coin-flipping talent. Next, she asked the other bartender, Meghan H, to help. Meghan graciously accpted, though she too proved to have limited coin-flipping ability. After a practice flip that went flawlessly, Meghan proceeded to the Official Flip, interrupted only by a lame attempt at bribery. ![]() Meghan flipped the coin, and missed, claiming to be blinded by the flash (very likely). ![]() She continued with a second flip, getting the attention of the whole bar when the coin clattered to the floor. ![]() After a few more attempts, Meghan caught the dollar, flipped it to her arm, and showed the crowd. "Tails!" ![]() With the correct guess, Squeeze Play inherited the first seed and Swarm was assigned the second seed. This completed the bracket. Good luck, teams! (and thanks for the help, Joe's!)
