Softball Equipment for Acton Servicemen

Wanted: Your used adult softball gloves (and softballs)

Wanted: Your used adult softball gloves (and softballs).

For the past year or so, local families have donated care items for some Acton men serving in the Army in Iraq as well as school supplies and soccer balls that they distribute to the local Iraqi children.  The soldiers (SFC Dan, MAJ Don, and SPC Marc) send us occasional emails and pictures in return, and it has been a wonderful experience. They are in three different parts of Iraq.  We do not use the soldiers' last names to protect their families' privacy. This is not a political activity, or part of any organization. I handle all donations and have mailed over 400 boxes from our community.

I asked if there was anything in particular we could send this month and Specialist Marc (a 21-year old college student from
Acton who is in the National Guard) said:

"There actually is one thing we could use. Just for fun, they made a softball field here for us, that consists of sand and rocks but it has three bases and a plate so I guess you can call it that. Anyways we could use whatever people want to send. We are all set on the bats unless someone really wants to donate one or two. We mostly need balls and gloves. Even if you collect a few balls, that's fine we will take anything.

Yes there are dust storms where I am all the time, constantly. Its gets pretty bad but we manage. Ok It was nice hearing from you. Have a good day ttul.  SPC Marc"

New or gently used softballs and adult size gloves may be dropped off at:

  • Middlesex Savings Bank (W. Acton Center or on 27 near Dunkin Donuts and TC Lando’s)
  • 26 Nashoba Road in Acton (box on my front porch near the flag)

If someone has a bunch, I'd be happy to pick them up. I have donations that will cover postage costs, but checks may be payable to "LTC Dad Iraq Project" are always welcome.

To join the email list for updates from our
Acton soldiers serving in Iraq, or for more info, send a message to BPetr@verizon.net

THANK YOU!
