AASL Completes Its 12th Season!
In 2011, the Acton Adult Softball League (AASL) ran its twelfth season with all 16 teams returning from 2010. Over the 15-week regular season, teams completed all but 3 games and Misfits, a perennial powerhouse, won the division with a 13-2 record. Through the "play-in" playoffs setup, the best seeds in the first round advanced, but in the second round, three teams were dealt upsets as lower-ranked teams advanced! In the third round, two more higher-ranked teams were knocked out, leading to semifinals with seeds 2, 4, 9, and 11. Blazing Saddles, a second-year team, continued their string of late-inning playoff comebacks and beat the second-ranked Hackers 9-8 after scoring 7 runs in the top of the 7th inning and made it to the finals! In the finals they faced the Rink Rats, annually a top team, who won a close final 4-3, ending a Cinderella story one win short of the trophy.
AASL plays in Acton from late April to late August, including a regular season and playoffs. We play regular season games Sunday afternoons and Monday through Thursday evenings at two fields in Acton. We maintain a recreational/semi-competitive coed league - if you expect to play in an ultra competitive environment, please choose another league. All players are at least 21 years old with a few players over 65 years old, and two thirds live in Acton though that is not a requirement to play in the league. See other registration statistics.
Registration
Registration is open to teams, with returning teams having a chance to return prior to admitting new teams. Individuals can also sign up to be put on a waiting/callup list and might be able to join a team roster at the beginning or during the season, or might get a one-game callup to fill a roster on a specific day. In 2011 we were unable to place all individuals who registered, and our limited field space limits the number of teams we can have in the league while maintaining a reasonable schedule. Registration for 2012 will begin in February 2012.
